Edwardian writing tables date from the reign of King Edward VII (1901 to 1910) and typically combine lighter, more refined proportions with influences from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals.

These pieces were primarily constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, frequently featuring hand-tooled leather writing surfaces, brass hardware, and dovetailed drawer construction.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, genuine patina on the timber and leather, original brass fittings, and secondary woods consistent with early 20th-century British cabinetmaking.

Such a piece serves as a functional workspace or console in a contemporary study or living room, pairing effectively with minimalist seating to create contrast between old and new.

Maintain the timber by applying microcrystalline wax periodically, keep the leather conditioned using specialist balms, and protect the surface from direct sunlight and excessive moisture.
