Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th century Chinoiserie console table is a striking piece of lacquered wood furniture designed in a maximalist style. The rectangular structure possesses a rich black finish highlighted by elaborate gold hand-painted Chinoiserie patterns and motifs across the frieze and legs. An inset light marble top rests cleanly within the upper frame, offering a contrasting surface above the intricate carvings. Below, the body incorporates carved openwork aprons and decorative corner spandrels that enhance the ornate silhouette, supported by four straight legs connected by stretchers. Measuring 80 cm high and 92 cm wide, the table offers a compact footprint suitable for various living spaces. Placed beside the front door in a hallway or entryway, the table serves as a functional surface for keys, small accessories, or decorative displays while immediately establishing a bold aesthetic upon entering the home.

FAQs

Chinoiserie lacquered furniture features decorative hand-painted scenes or botanical motifs applied over dark lacquered surfaces, reflecting European interpretations of East Asian artistic traditions.

These tables typically consist of a timber frame treated with multiple layers of natural lacquer resin, finished with metallic paint or gilding, and frequently topped with inset stone or marble panels.

Authentic lacquered items show natural age-related craquelure on the painted surfaces, hand-carved joinery details along the underside frame, and subtle variations in the gilded motifs.

Position the console table against a neutral wall in a hallway or living space, pairing it with contemporary ceramic vessels or architectural lighting to contrast the detailed lacquerwork.

Dust the lacquered frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid direct sunlight or moisture; clean the marble top using a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent etching.
