Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Chippendale Revival extending dining table originates from 1900 and uses solid mahogany with a warm brown polished finish. The rectangular top shows multiple leaf join seams across the length, and the frame rests on shaped cabriole legs decorated with carved knees, ball and claw feet, and metal castors. The size measures 75 cm high, 242.6 cm wide, and 120.7 cm deep when fully extended. In a contemporary home, this piece fits well in a traditional dining room or open-plan living space for everyday family meals and formal dinner parties. The wind-out mechanism allows the table to adapt quickly for larger gatherings through the addition of up to three leaves, accommodating different numbers of guests as needed.

FAQs

A wind-out extending dining table features an internal brass screw mechanism operated by a removable hand crank, allowing the table frame to expand to accommodate extra insertion leaves.

These tables are primarily constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, paired with cast iron or brass winding mechanisms designed for smooth operation.

Authentic examples feature heavy cast brass winding handles, hand-cut dovetail joints on the runner casing, solid timber leaves matching the grain of the top, and period-accurate carving on the leg knees.

Pair the rich mahogany tones with contemporary upholstered dining chairs, neutral wall palettes, and modern pendant lighting to create an eclectic balance between traditional craft and modern design.

Keep the timber surface hydrated using a high-quality beeswax polish applied along the grain, protect the polish from hot items using mats, and balance internal humidity levels to prevent timber movement.
