Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Burr walnut refers to the rare, highly figured grain obtained from the wart-like growths on walnut trees. It gained immense popularity during the 18th century and experienced a revival in the Victorian and Art Deco periods due to its striking, marbled patterns.

These pieces typically utilise fine walnut veneers applied over a stable secondary timber core, such as mahogany or pine, to showcase the decorative grain without warping. Traditional joinery, hand-carved pedestal bases, and French polish or wax finishes are standard hallmarks of quality craftsmanship.

Authentic items exhibit natural variations in the grain pattern with no repeating motifs, as veneers were carefully matched by hand. Inspection of the underside often reveals older secondary woods, hand-cut screws or dovetails, and signs of patina consistent with age.

A burr walnut table serves as a strong focal point in a contemporary living room when paired with neutral upholstery and minimalist accessories. Balance the rich, warm tones with modern metallic accents, ceramic vessels, or stacked art books to create visual contrast.

Maintain the wood by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding direct sunlight, which can fade the delicate grain. Apply a high-quality beeswax periodically to nourish the finish, and always use coasters to protect against moisture and heat.
