This Victorian safe from around 1900 is made from cast iron, steel, and brass, finished in a dark green paintwork with painted filigree detailing and a prominent brass crest emblem. It has heavy-duty cast iron hinges, a lever handle, a vertical pull handle on the left side of the door, and keys suspended from the central lock mechanism. The surfaces show visible wear and patina consistent with its age and industrial use. Measuring 81 cm high, 66.5 cm wide, and 65.5 cm deep, it provides a solid, secure storage solution for documents and valuables. In a contemporary home, this piece suits an industrial loft study, home office, or hallway as a standalone accent table or statement furniture item. Its robust construction and utilitarian aesthetic make it a practical and decorative addition to spaces celebrating heritage hardware and historical design.

Milners Safe Company was established in the early 19th century in Liverpool, becoming one of the premier manufacturers of fire-resistant and burglar-proof safes in Great Britain throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

Antique safes were constructed using heavy cast iron or wrought iron exterior plates, often lined with non-conductive fire-proofing materials such as alum or plaster, and fitted with brass locks, handles, and decorative crests.

Authentic late Victorian or early Edwardian safes feature heavy cast metal construction, raised makers brass plaques or royal crests, painted decorative spandrels or hand-stencilled details, and heavy lever locking mechanisms.

An antique iron safe serves as a striking functional accent in an industrial loft, home office, or hallway, operating as a unique side table or secure cabinet while providing significant visual weight.

Clean the painted exterior gently with a microfiber cloth and mild soapy water, avoiding harsh solvents, and treat any exposed ironwork or brass fittings with clear microcrystalline wax to prevent oxidisation.
