FAQs

Kidney-shaped tray tables gained popularity during the late 18th and 19th centuries, often utilised as versatile tea tables or portable serving pieces that could double as elegant occasional furniture in affluent homes.

These pieces typically feature fine timbers such as satinwood or mahogany, often enhanced with marquetry or string inlay, and are frequently fitted with cast brass galleries and carrying handles.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, natural age-related timber shrinkage, genuine patination on the brass hardware, and traditional hand-applied finishes like shellac or wax.

A tray table can be positioned as an accent piece next to a sofa or armchair, styled minimally with a stack of books, a small lamp, or decorative objects to highlight its distinctive silhouette.

Maintain satinwood furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying a high-quality microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood.
