Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Scandinavian rustic tray table is made from pine and finished in a worn, distressed light blue paint with visible surface marks and weathering. The piece takes the form of a rectangular trough top with a deep gallery rim, supported on four splayed legs. Dimensions are 69.2 cm high, 92 cm wide, and 56.5 cm deep. Suitable for use in a garden room, sunlit conservatory, or bay window as a side table or display surface, the table brings a lived-in country character to modern interiors. The original surface retains its authentic patina and traces of older hues beneath the pale blue topcoat.

FAQs

Originally crafted for utility in rural households and garden rooms during the 19th century, tray tables feature a high-rimmed top designed to hold plants, tools, or serving items without spilling.

These utilitarian pieces were typically constructed from softwood timber such as pine or fir, joined with simple mortise and tenon or pegged construction, and finished with milk paint or oil-based pigments.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-planed surfaces, irregular joinery, historical wear patterns on the leg bases, and multiple layers of chippy or flaking paint showing age-appropriate patination.

Position the piece in a hallway, conservatory, or living space as a planter stand, side table, or display platform for ceramics and architectural fragments.

Preserve the original paint layer by dusting with a soft dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or water exposure, and applying a clear microcrystalline wax to stabilise delicate paint.
