This Victorian period pot pourri jar is made of porcelain with a cream and gold colour scheme and extensive gilding. The bulbous body features hand-painted cranes in a landscape, complemented by an ornate pierced lid with a looped finial, gilded scroll handles, and scroll feet supporting a base. The object is decorated with gilt finishes throughout the rim, handles, lid, and feet. Measuring 21.5 cm high, 15 cm wide, and 15 cm deep, the piece stands compactly on a pedestal base. Suitable for display in a traditional setting, this decorative vessel functions well on a mantelpiece in a living room, study, or hallway. The porcelain construction and hand-painted motifs suit an English Country House interior aesthetic, adding a classic accent to surfaces such as sideboards or display cabinets. The item brings a combination of painted scenery and gilded metalwork details to a room, offering a focal point for collector displays without taking up excessive space.

A porcelain pot pourri jar was designed to hold scented mixtures of dried flowers, herbs, and essential oils. The perforated inner or outer lid allowed aromatic vapours to diffuse throughout a room while concealing the contents inside.

These pieces were typically crafted from fine bone china or soft-paste porcelain, featuring hand-painted enamel decoration, soft polychrome glazes, reticulated or pierced lids, and heavy gilding applied to handles, borders, and bases.

Authentic Royal Worcester ceramics feature factory backmarks printed or impressed on the base, often accompanied by dot code systems indicating the year of manufacture, artist signatures or initials, and shape numbers.

Place the jar as a singular statement object on a mantlepiece, sideboard, or console table. Pairing it with streamlined modern surfaces or muted architectural backdrops highlights its detailed paintwork and gilded accents.

Dust the item regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfibre cloth. Avoid immersion in water, abrasive cleaning agents, or harsh chemicals, as these can wear away gilded highlights and delicate overglaze enamels.
