A pounce pot is a small shaker container used in the 17th and 18th centuries to sprinkle powdered resin, cuttlefish bone, or sand over freshly written ink to dry it and prevent smudging before blotting paper became common.

Eighteenth-century treen items were hand-turned on foot-powered lathes from native hardwoods such as boxwood, fruitwood, lignum vitae, and maple, often displaying tool marks from the turning process.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit a deep patina developed from handling and natural wax polishing, hand-turned construction characteristics, and wear consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

Antique treen works well as a sculptural desk or shelf accent, adding organic warmth and historical texture when contrasted against modern clean lines or neutral materials.

Preserve treen by keeping it away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth without using water or modern chemical cleaners.
