Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early 19th century during the Regency era, a wash stand was a piece of occasional bedroom furniture designed to hold a basin and jug for daily ablutions prior to indoor plumbing.

Regency wash stands were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, frequently fitted with ceramic, porcelain, or lead-glazed earthenware basins within a carved rim.

Authentic pieces from the 1820s feature classical proportions, hand-turned legs, triform or concave stretchers, and original joinery with natural age-related patination on the timber.

In modern interiors, an antique wash stand is commonly repurposed as a plant stand or jardiniere frame, placed in a sunroom, hallway, or living space to hold floral arrangements or decorative greenery.

Dust the polished mahogany frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and nourish the wood periodically with bees wax, while washing any removable glazed ceramic basin separately using warm water.
