Bidet stools became popular in British households during the Georgian and Victorian periods as personal hygiene practices evolved, typically kept in private dressing rooms or bedrooms before indoor plumbing was commonplace.

These items were predominantly crafted from solid timber frames such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, often housing a removable glazed ceramic or earthenware basin inside.

Authenticity is determined by period-appropriate construction methods, hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional wood seasoning, hand-turned legs, and the presence of original glazed earthenware liners with appropriate crazing and wear consistent with age.

In contemporary spaces, these items are frequently repurposed as decorative plant stands, unique side tables, or standalone historical display pieces in bathrooms and hallways.

Preservation involves dusting with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, and periodically applying traditional beeswax to nourish and protect the wooden surface.
