Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 17th-century France, the gueridon evolved from a slender candle-stand into a round centre table supported by a single pedestal or tripod base. By the early 19th century, during the French Empire and Restoration periods, these tables became central features of salon reception rooms, designed to display decorative art objects or hold tea service.

Authentic 19th-century gueridon tables typically feature solid hardwood frames or veneers such as flame mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, combined with thick slab marble tops. The marble varieties often include grey, white, red, or beige veined stone, occasionally accented with gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts around the apron or feet.

Authentic period pieces exhibit heavy, architectural proportions, heavy-gauge cut veneers over solid oak or pine carcasses, and genuine hand-carved or turned pedestal bases. Look for original marble tops with hand-moulded edges and evidence of age appropriate wear to the underside of the woodwork and joinery.

A gueridon works effectively as a focal point in an entry hall or foyer, decorated with a large floral vase, ceramic bowl, or curated stack of art books. It can also serve as an accent table in a spacious living room alcove or window bay to balance contemporary upholstered seating.

Dust the wood and marble surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral cleaner specifically formulated for natural stone to avoid etching the surface, and polish the wooden pedestal with high-grade beeswax twice yearly to protect the finish.
