FAQs

Drop leaf tables gained popularity in the 17th and 18th centuries as a versatile furniture solution for smaller spaces, allowing users to extend the surface area only when needed.

These tables are traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring hinged leaves supported by swing-out legs, gatelegs, or a central pedestal mechanism.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut joinery, period-appropriate wood aging, hand-turned elements, and traditional hardware such as brass hinges rather than modern screws.

They function effectively as compact dining solutions, console tables against a wall, or central display surfaces in living areas by folding down one or both leaves to save space.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and periodically applying quality beeswax to nourish the finish.
