Pichhwai is a traditional style of Indian textile painting that originated over 400 years ago in Nathdwara, Rajasthan. The word derives from pichh meaning back and wai meaning hanging, as these large painted cloths were originally created to hang behind the deity in Hindu temples to depict various stories and seasons.
