Gateleg tables gained widespread popularity in Britain during the 17th and 18th centuries, prized for their space-saving drop-leaf mechanism which allowed households to expand surface area only when required.

These tables were typically constructed from native hardwoods such as oak or elm, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-turned legs, and swing-out gate supports hinged to the central frame.

Authenticity is identified by hand-cut joinery, timber shrinkage, period-appropriate fixings, hand-planed board surfaces, and natural patination accumulated through centuries of use.

An antique wooden table introduces warmth and historical contrast into contemporary spaces, working effectively as a dining surface or a console when folded against a wall.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
