Boulle marquetry is a decorative inlay technique pioneered in 17th-century France by Andre-Charles Boulle, cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV. It involves layering thin sheets of brass and tortoiseshell together, cutting intricate scrollwork designs simultaneously, and applying them to wooden furniture frames.
