Rare matched ‘pair’ of early C19th William IV period mahogany washstands or bedside tables of classical architectural form .
Impressive and boldly-designed ‘pair’ of bedside tables modelled as truncated architectural fluted classical columns with carved Ionic capital tops , the bodies having concealed-opening hinged doors with brass spring-catch releases, each revealing a single shelved interior. The sides of the scrolling volutes of the Ionic order capitals with full-length shaped returns . Taking their inspiration from classical architectural marble columns, the tops being of a slab-type form.
The hinged rising tops each fitted with an adjustable hinged mirror to the underside with a brass release catch , and fitted with a hinged lacquered brass ‘stay’ .The interior of the open tops with shaped apertures for wash china and basins .
Raised on plinth bases with concave or re-entrant corners .
Minor variations to dimensions and variances to the carving details of the ionic capitals.
Of free-standing form with polished surfaces to all sides .
Excellent original condition with a rich colour and patina to the well-selected figured mahogany. Have been cleaned and waxed in our workshops ready to use .
