Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Chinese Chippendale card table from 1900 is made of dark brown mahogany with a fold-over top. The frieze displays intricate blind fretwork carving, complemented by pierced corner spandrels and square, fluted legs with chamfered insides. The dark wood shows a rich finish and grain pattern across the rectangular top and frame. Measuring 75.5 cm high, 91.5 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, this piece suits a narrow wall space in a living room, hallway, or study. It functions as a side table or console when closed, with a hinged top and sliding rear legs designed to support the surface and create a storage space underneath when opened.

FAQs

Popularised in 18th-century Britain by cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale, this style synthesised European Rococo forms with Asian-inspired motifs such as lattice fretwork, pagoda tops, and straight bamboo-style legs.

Dense West Indian or Cuban mahogany was predominantly utilised alongside hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, and gate-leg or concertina opening mechanisms.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved blind or pierced fretwork, original brass hinges, hand-planed secondary woods beneath the top, and signs of genuine age patina around wear points.

When closed, the table serves as a slim console table suited for hallways, alcoves, or behind a sofa, topped with lamps or decorative ceramics.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources, clean surfaces with a soft dry cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the patina.
