Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A traditional altar or serving table is a long, narrow timber structure designed for ceremonial use in church settings or for holding prepared dishes in dining halls. These pieces typically feature solid hardwood construction with plain aprons and heavy structural end supports.

These long tables are primarily crafted from durable European hardwoods, with oak being the primary timber selected for longevity and grain character. Traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon joints, wooden pegs, and solid slab legs were utilised to provide structural stability.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-worked timber, such as hand-planed marks, uneven wear along the base legs, and natural wood shrinkage around joints. Genuine aged oak develops a distinct patina and deep colour oxidisation over centuries.

A large oak serving table functions as a grounding focal point when positioned along a hall wall, behind a sofa, or in a wide dining space. Modern interiors balance the heavy architectural timber by pairing the table with simple ceramics, understated lighting, and clean backdrop walls.

Position solid oak furniture away from direct heat sources and severe moisture fluctuations to prevent timber movement or splitting. Dust regularly using a clean, soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to maintain timber hydration.
