For sale, this fine pair of early Worcester 3 flower design tea bowls and saucers, dating circa 1770.

The four pieces are in remarkably fine undamaged condition, the tea bowls finely potted. No restoration. The tea bowls are quite small with a hight of approx. 3.7cm tall and a diameter of 6.3cm

The saucer dishes each 10.2cm diameter and 2.3cm tall. Possibly from a miniature set.

First Period Worcester porcelain refers to items produced by the Worcester factory between 1751 and 1783 under Dr John Wall. This period is characterised by soft-paste porcelain bodies, underglaze cobalt blue transfer decoration, and functional tableware designs.

Eighteenth-century English tea bowls were manufactured using soft-paste porcelain, which combined soapstone from Cornwall with clay and glass frit. The decorative patterns were applied using cobalt oxide pigment under a lead glaze.

Authentic Worcester pieces often display a greenish or greyish tint when held up to light due to the inclusion of soapstone in the ceramic body. They may also feature underglaze blue factory marks on the base, such as the open crescent or workmens marks.
