This Victorian garden table dates from the nineteenth century and pairs a rectangular white marble slab top with a white painted cast iron base. The heavy stone slab displays a grey-veined pattern across its surface, supported by intricate scrollwork trestle legs and a central turned stretcher with decorative turnings. The cast iron frame shows an old white paint finish with natural areas of rust showing through, scroll-shaped feet, and a missing finial between the scrolling legs at one end. Standing at 74 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 61 cm deep, this piece provides a sturdy surface suited for placement in a sunlit conservatory or garden room. Practical and robust, the combination of stone and metal makes the table appropriate for everyday indoor or outdoor display as a side table or display surface. The weathered finish and classic architectural lines offer an authentic period aesthetic that integrates easily into traditional or eclectic interior schemes. Maintenance involves simple wiping of the marble surface, while the sturdy metal base requires minimal upkeep beyond managing the existing weathered patina. The compact rectangular footprint allows it to fit neatly against walls or within seating arrangements.

Originating in 19th-century Europe, these tables were crafted with heavy cast iron bases and weather-resistant marble tops to withstand outdoor conditions in gardens, cafes, and conservatories.

The bases were produced by pouring molten iron into sand moulds to form decorative scrollwork trestles, which were often joined by a central stretcher, while a thick marble slab was placed unattached or framed on top.

Authentic period examples feature detailed casting seams, heavy visual weight, natural weathering or paint layering, and signs of minor surface oxidisation along the base joints.

These pieces function as plant stands in sunrooms, hallway console tables, or dining surfaces on outdoor patios, pairing structured metalwork with natural greenery and neutral tones.

To preserve the metals, apply a clear rust-inhibiting wax or paint touch-ups to exposed areas, while cleaning the marble slab with pH-neutral soap and avoiding acidic cleaners that cause etching.
