Brass doorstops became prominent during the Victorian and Edwardian eras as draught-excluding accessories for interior doors in substantial homes.

These items were typically produced using traditional sand-casting methods with solid brass or bronze alloys, resulting in substantial weight.

Authentic pieces often feature maker marks, country of origin stamps like England, heavy unplated solid brass construction, and natural ageing or patination.

They function both as practical floor hardware and as sculptural metallic accents in hallways, entryways, or studies.

Preserve the metal by dusting with a soft cloth and avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners that strip the natural oxidisation and protective patina.
