Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Chinese provincial console table uses solid elm with a terracotta red lacquer finish and mortise and tenon joinery. The elm top of framed construction displays wear showing the warm colour of the figured timber below, while the straight turned legs connect with horizontal stretchers beneath a shaped frieze with carved spandrels, all retaining their original aged lacquer. Measuring 85 cm high, 96 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, the piece sits beside the front door or in a hallway for display purposes. The design works within a maximalist wonderland interior scheme, offering a practical surface for everyday items.

FAQs

A Chinese half table, historically known as a banzhuo, is a rectangular timber table originating in the Ming and Qing dynasties, designed to sit against a wall or be paired with identical tables during domestic or ceremonial functions.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and maintain a stable indoor environment away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood movement and lacquer flaking.

Position the piece in a foyer or hallway as a console table, pairing its weathered red patina with minimal ceramics, clean-lined artwork, or natural greenery for balanced contrast.

Authentic examples display hand-carved joinery marks, natural wear along high-contact areas like stretchers and feet, and characteristic craquelure or shrinkage in the aged lacquer layer.

These pieces are typically crafted from regional timbers like elm or pine, constructed using precise mortise-and-tenon joinery without metal nails, and finished with coats of natural tree sap lacquer.
