FAQs

Antique wooden apothecary jars, often referred to as treen, were turned containers used by chemists and pharmacists to store dried herbs, roots, gums, and medicinal powders before the widespread adoption of glass containers.

These vessels were typically hand-turned on a lathe from dense hardwoods such as boxwood, sycamore, or beech, often featuring tightly fitted lids to protect contents from moisture and a hand-applied or painted label indicating the pharmaceutical substance.

Authenticity is identified through tool marks left by early woodturning lathes, natural patina and ageing of the timber, hand-lettered or early printed paper labels, and construction wear consistent with historical handling.

This type of object suits placement on bookshelves, open kitchen shelving, or sideboards, adding organic warmth and historical texture to minimalist, industrial, or traditional interior schemes.

Preserve wooden treen by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from extreme temperature fluctuations, applying occasional microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber, and avoiding water contact.
