Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Chinese decorative object is a ruyi sceptre shaped from boxwood in a naturalistic form with a warm brown colour. The piece is intricately carved with a branch, a large peach at one end, a bat feeding, foliage, leaves, and small peaches. Visible details include the glossy timber finish, the sculpted contours of the peach head, and the openwork undercut carving along the intertwined branches. Measuring 40 cm high, 9 cm wide and 8 cm deep, the sceptre sits comfortably as a display piece on an office desk or within a gentleman's library. Homeowners typically place such items on a flat surface as a decorative accent in a study or display cabinet to showcase traditional craftsmanship.

FAQs

A Ruyi sceptre is a symbolic object in Chinese culture, traditionally associated with good fortune, authority, and high status, often displayed in scholars studios and imperial courts.

Sceptres were crafted from various high-value materials, including dense hardwoods like boxwood and zitan, carved jade, cloisonne enamel, cinnabar lacquer, and bamboo root.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit smooth wear on handled surfaces, deep natural oxidation within carved crevices, and precise, hand-carved detailing representing traditional motifs like lingzhi fungus or peaches.

Place the sceptre horizontally on a dark wood console table, elevated on a bespoke stand inside an illuminated display cabinet, or on an office desk as a focal decorative accent.

Keep the carving away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, dusting gently with a soft dry brush and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to preserve the timber finish.
