By HENRY DASSON Henry Dasson was a renowned nineteenth century Parisian maker of gilt-bronze mounted furniture. Unlike other cabinetmakers of the time Dasson began his career as a bronze sculptor, and consequently one characteristic of his work is the quality of his bronze and more precisely of the chiselling.

This nineteenth-century Louis XVI Revival gueridon table takes the form of a freestanding occasional piece with a dark brown mahogany frame, a light marble top, and reflective gold ormolu mounts. The circular surface rests above a frieze set with classical blue and white Wedgwood plaques, gilded foliate wreaths, and twisted rope mouldings. Four slender fluted tapering legs support the upper structure and descend to carved rope twist feet, joined midway by a lower undertier enclosed by a pierced lattice gallery.
