Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century decorative plate takes the form of a Japanese Imari folding hand fan, rendered in porcelain with a glossy enamel finish. The palette combines vivid cobalt blue, terracotta red and gold leaf accents across a scalloped upper border and a cream-coloured ground. The surface displays intricate chrysanthemum blossoms, scrolling gilt patterns and fan ribs depicted in blue and red lines, culminating in small crossed handle tips at the base. Measuring H 23.5cm by W 29cm and D 3.5cm, the dish serves as a display piece suitable for placement atop a sideboard or within a cabinet. The porcelain construction provides a rigid structure for decorative collection in domestic interiors.

FAQs

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita area of Hizen province, named after the port of Imari from which it was shipped to Europe starting in the seventeenth century.

It is crafted from kaolin clay fired at high temperatures, featuring underglaze cobalt blue decoration combined with overglaze iron-red enamel and gold gilding.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-painted brushwork with minor natural variations, spur marks on the base from kiln firing, and a characteristic colour scheme of rich cobalt blue, iron red, and gilding.

Accent pieces like this can be displayed on a plate stand atop a sideboard, used as a decorative catch-all dish on a console table, or incorporated into a gallery wall display.

Clean gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding abrasive sponges or modern dishwashers that could wear away overglaze enamels and gilding.
