Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III tea tables, produced in Britain during the mid-to-late 18th century, are defined by classical symmetry, straight line profiles, and refined proportions. Common characteristics include square tapered legs, subtle string inlay, flame mahogany veneers, and fold-over tops designed for versatility.

Craftsmen of this period primarily utilised solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany for structural stability, alongside satinwood or boxwood for decorative inlay and stringing. Secondary internal woods typically included oak or pine for drawer linings and support framing.

Authentic period pieces display hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetail joints, brass fold-over hinges, and natural timber shrinkage across wide panel surfaces. Original patination shows uneven colouration from age and exposure rather than uniform modern finishes.

A Georgian fold-over table serves as a functional console in an entryway, behind a sofa, or within a formal living area. Its slender depth permits placement in narrow hallways while offering expanded surface space when unfolded.

Preserve mahogany surfaces by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice per year. Maintain consistent indoor humidity levels and position the item away from direct heat sources and natural sunlight to prevent timber movement and fading.
