Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III Sheraton cellarette is an eighteenth-century wooden chest or cabinet designed specifically to hold wine bottles and decanters. Styled following the neoclassic proportions of designer Thomas Sheraton, these pieces typically feature refined mahogany veneers, geometric inlay, and specialized stands.

These pieces were predominantly crafted using flame mahogany, with decorative satinwood or boxwood stringing for inlays. The interior often contained lead linings or wooden dividers for bottle separation, complemented by cast brass drop handles and brass castors.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass castors, hand-cut inlay stringing, and natural wear or patination on the timber. Key signs include hand-forged iron locks, original escutcheons, and historic shrinkage marks on solid timber sections.

A mahogany cellarette functions as an occasional side table or standalone feature piece in a dining room, study, or hallway. Place it in a alcove or beside seating arrangements to introduce rich timber tones and historical structure to current decor schemes.

Dust timber regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish twice yearly following the wood grain. Avoid placing the furniture near radiators or direct sunlight, and leave original brass handles unpolished to preserve authentic historic patination.
