Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 18TH CENTURY:
Thick tin glaze with scattered pinholes: typical of 18th-century earthenware kiln firings.
Buff earthenware showing through edge fritting: soft pottery beneath the brittle glaze.
Hand-painted cobalt chinoiserie figures: freehand decoration applied to unfired glaze.
Unglazed foot rim ring: traditional wiping of glaze before kiln placement.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This eighteenth-century Dutch Delftware shallow bowl is tin-glazed earthenware with hand-painted cobalt blue Chinoiserie decoration. The round body has a scalloped edge and a fluted rim with panel designs, enclosing a dished centre painted with seated figures in a landscape. The white glaze shows light age-related fritting, alongside a visible chip and hairline crack extending from the rim. Measuring 31 cm high, 31 cm wide and 5 cm deep, the piece offers a practical scale for placement on a dining room sideboard or a living room display table. The classic blue and white palette suits traditional interiors, lending character as a decorative dish or focal display object in a period home setting.

Dutch Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware manufactured primarily around the city of Delft in the Netherlands during the eighteenth century, famous for hand-painted cobalt blue decoration inspired by Chinese export porcelain.

Potters formed pieces from local clay mixtures, fired them once, coated them in an opaque white glaze containing tin oxide, hand-painted designs using metallic oxides, and executed a final glaze firing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit a soft reddish or yellowish earthenware body beneath small chips, minor glaze rim fritting, hand-painted brushwork variations, and characteristic pinholes in the tin glaze.

Display the bowl on a brass plate stand, mount it as part of a ceramic gallery wall, or position it flat on a sideboard top as a decorative focal point.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and wash lightly in lukewarm water with neutral soap if necessary, ensuring the item is never submerged or placed in a dishwasher.
