Curious Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
This makes sense as the remainder of the inscription reads 'called Dutch Cherokee'. This leads us to believe it is an American piece either by a Native American or sailor with some connection/knowledge of this Cherokee Chief. There is also an inscribed picture of a native American / frontiersman in traditional dress. This has rubbed/faded a little but is still visible. There is a small loss to the end of the horn but overall condition is good and as you would expect from a piece of this age. An interesting item capturing a piece of social history. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to view the item.
