Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cellaret is a specialised wooden container, manufactured primarily during the 18th and early 19th centuries, designed to house wine or spirit bottles. During the Regency period, these boxes frequently incorporated classical architectural forms, including tapered sarcophagus silhouettes.

Regency cellarets were built using solid hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, often dressed in flame mahogany veneers. Internal compartments were historically fitted with lead or zinc linings to contain melting ice and prevent moisture damage to the timber.

Authentic Regency examples feature period cabinetmaking details including hand-cut dovetail joinery, brass keyhole escutcheons, stepped sarcophagus lids, and solid plinth or carved bracket feet.

An antique cellaret functions effectively as a decorative accent placed atop a sideboard, bar console, or within a home library. The structured form provides historical grounding when contrasted against modern architectural finishes.

Maintain mahogany surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish periodically. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage, splitting, or veneer lifting.
