An extremely rare style of table in chestnut from the Basque region of Spain, in the form of a pair of square tables with triple-plank tops over boldly-turned legs united by external stretchers, which pull out from each other to reveal rails which take an inserted leaf held in place by grooves. The top has lots of character, with old burn marks and slots for a kitchen appliance. The insert is a replacement from 50 years ago, made from an 18th century Welsh oak table, and is a near perfect match for colour and surface.
Spanish Basque Region. circa 1620.
