This George III card table from the Georgian period comes in warm brown mahogany with a visible flame mahogany veneer on the deep frieze. The piece has a shaped, hinged fold-over top with a serpentine front, resting on four cabriole legs decorated with c-scrolls at the top and unusual faceted pad feet. Measuring 74 cm high, 84 cm wide, and 40 cm deep, the table suits placement beside the front door of an English country house today as a decorative console or a practical surface for greeting guests. Inside, the fold-over top opens to a felt-lined interior equipped with guinea wells and drink areas, supported by a hinged back leg that swings outward. Built for versatile living spaces, the furniture item combines traditional cabinetmaking elements with practical folding functionality typical of eighteenth-century card tables. The warm grain patterns of the timber provide a rich visual texture across the entire structure, while the curves of the serpentine top and the sweeping lines of the legs create a balanced silhouette. Placed against a wall or in an entrance hallway, the table brings historical character and classic British design to contemporary interiors without taking up excessive floor space.

A George III card table is an English furniture piece produced between 1760 and 1820, designed with a hinged fold-over top to facilitate card playing and social games.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, with secondary woods such as oak or pine used for internal framework and drawer linings.

Look for hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed undersides, authentic timber oxidisation, original iron or brass hinges, and a gate-leg or rear leg swing mechanism.

When closed, the table functions as a hall console or side table behind a sofa, positioned beneath a mirror or framed artwork with table lamps.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish twice a year along the grain, avoiding placement near radiators or direct sunlight.
