FAQs

Georgian tea tables emerged during the 18th century as tea drinking transformed from an exclusive luxury into a central social ritual for the affluent classes.

These tables were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, frequently featuring complex hinge mechanisms, fold-over tops, and precise joinery.

Authenticity is assessed through timber patination, hand-cut dovetail joints, period-appropriate hardware, and signs of genuine age-related wear rather than modern manufacturing marks.

A fold-over tea table functions effectively as an entryway console or a living room side table, providing historic contrast when paired with minimalist modern decor.

Protect the timber from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, maintaining the surface with traditional beeswax while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
