Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Rococo Revival centre table is an 1860 Irish piece made from dark brown rosewood with ceramic elements. The oval top has a scalloped piecrust edge decorated with carved double mouldings above twin pedestal supports and a turned stretcher, all finished with typical Irish carvings. Four swept scroll feet rest upon original castors. It stands 74 cm high, with a width of 137 cm and a depth of 91 cm. The timber displays a rich dark brown patina across the polished surfaces and intricate carvings. Positioned in a spacious hallway or reception room, this table serves as a striking central display piece for a floral arrangement or decorative ornaments. The sturdy construction and generous surface area also make it suitable for a large living room as an occasional table. The compact footprint allows placement away from walls, while the low stretcher adds stability. Its ornate carvings and classical silhouette complement traditional interior schemes, bringing period character and practical surface space to an everyday interior setting.

FAQs

A Victorian Irish centre table is a decorative item of 19th-century furniture, characterized by elaborate hand-carvings, dense timbers such as rosewood, and a finished design intended to stand free in the middle of a room or hallway.

These tables were crafted primarily from solid rosewood or rosewood veneers over mahogany or oak frames, often featuring hand-carved relief work, turned stretchers, and original ceramic or brass castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit dense, dark grain patterns characteristic of rosewood, period-appropriate hand-cut joinery, hand-carved embellishments, and natural wear on original castors and underside surfaces.

Place the table as a central focal point in an entry foyer or large hallway, paired with a minimalist vase or sculptural floral arrangement to contrast traditional woodwork with contemporary decor.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly along the timber grain, keeping the table away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent drying or discolouration.
