Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency sofa table is constructed from mahogany with brass line inlay and a warm brown timber colour. The rectangular top has drop leaf flaps on either side, a single drawer with a cedar lining, keyhole escutcheon, and two round brass ring handles, and splayed legs resting on brass castors. Measuring 70 cm high, 59 cm wide, and 77 cm deep, it provides a functional surface with extended width when the leaves are up. Suitable for placement at the back of a sofa or freestanding in a living room, this piece accommodates daily surface use while offering storage within its cedar-lined drawer. The traditional silhouette integrates into classic or transitional home interiors, serving as a display or writing table when positioned centrally or against room perimeters.

FAQs

Originating in early 19th-century Britain, a Regency sofa table is a narrow, rectangular table designed with hinged drop leaves on either side and small drawers, intended to sit behind a freestanding sofa.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, often featuring decorative brass inlay, ebony stringing, turned stretchers, and brass castors.

Authentic Regency examples typically feature splayed legs ending in original brass caps and castors, hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, brass inlay details, and narrow proportions suited to placement behind seating.

Position it directly behind a central sofa to break up open-plan living areas, or use it as a slim hallway console table, extended via the drop leaves when additional surface space is required.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically, taking care not to snag dusters on fine metal inlays or expose wood surfaces to direct heat sources.
