This Regency sofa table is a 19th-century piece made from dark brown rosewood with brass hardware. The construction incorporates a rectangular top with drop-leaf side flaps, two frieze drawers fitted with small round wooden knobs, and a pair of ring-turned and carved supports with swept legs ending in cast brass paw castors. Subtle decorative mouldings outline the drawer fronts, while the rich timber shows natural grain variations across the surfaces. Practical in design, this table measures 71 cm high, 94 cm wide and 71 cm deep, extending to 145 cm when fully open. It sits comfortably in a living room, study or hallway, where it serves as a functional writing surface, a side table, or a display station for lamps and decorative objects against a wall or behind a sofa.

Place the piece directly behind a central living room sofa, position it along an entry hallway as a console, or utilise it as a compact writing desk beneath a large wall mirror or framed art.

Maintain the surface by dusting with a soft dry cloth and applying natural beeswax sparingly twice a year along the wood grain, while keeping the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to protect the delicate veneer.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, natural wear around lock plates and knobs, original brass lions paw or wheel castors, and distinct crossbanding or grain patterning in the rosewood veneer.

These pieces were crafted predominantly from fine hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and satinwood, frequently accented with brass castors, turned wooden knobs, and hand-dovetailed drawer linings.

A sofa table from the Regency era (circa 18111830) is a long, narrow table designed to sit behind a sofa or against a wall, characterised by drop flaps at either end, end-supports, and frieze drawers.
