Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Royal Foley Ware jardiniere is an earthenware vessel finished with a pale yellow glaze and delicate gilding. It displays a scalloped rim, a scrollwork base, and gilded ram head handles alongside pastel floral swags across the body. The glaze shows reassuring wear to the gilt highlights. Measuring 23 cm in height and 26 cm in width and depth, the piece stands compactly on a sideboard top in an English country house interior. Today, this jardiniere suits display use in a sitting room or dining area, functioning well as a decorative container or standing alone on a sideboard top. The floral motifs and pastel tones coordinate easily with traditional interior schemes. Its proportions allow placement on standard furniture surfaces while holding decorative arrangements or simply serving as an ornamental ceramic object.

FAQs

A jardiniere is an ornamental vessel designed to hold indoor potted plants or floral arrangements, gaining widespread popularity in European households during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These vessels were typically crafted from earthenware, ironstone, or porcelain, finished with lead or feldspathic glazes, transfer printing, hand-applied enamels, and gilded accenting.

Authenticity can be verified by examining the base for impressed or painted makers marks, registration numbers, natural glaze crazing, and weight characteristic of period ceramic production.

A ceramic jardiniere can be positioned as a central decorative object on a sideboard, dining table, or console, filled with live greenery, orchids, or displayed as standalone decorative art.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleansers or prolonged submersion in water, which can degrade vintage gilding and glazed finishes.
