This nineteenth century French Rococo Revival pier table is designed for wall mounting in narrow spaces. The piece combines a serpentine white marble surface with a gilded gesso and giltwood structure, presenting gold and white tones throughout. Ornate decoration includes acanthus leaf scroll motifs beneath the shelf and a central monopodial leg extending toward the floor. The gilded finish shows evidence of past maintenance, having been overlaid with gilding repair cream while retaining its original marble top. Practical dimensions measure 89 cm high by 59 cm wide and 30 cm deep. Today, this decorative item serves effectively in hallways, entryways, or compact living areas where surface space is limited. The wall-mounted console provides an elegant display platform for small ornaments or lighting without occupying floor space. Traditional French chateau design characteristics make the table suitable for period interiors or as a contrasting accent piece within modern decorative schemes.

A pier table is a narrow wall-adjacent table, historically designed to sit in the space or pier between two windows or within a hallway.

These tables were constructed with carved timber frames coated in gessoa mixture of chalk and gluewhich was carved, water-gilded with gold leaf, and fitted with a shaped marble surface.

Authentic 19th-century giltwood displays natural wear along raised edges revealing red or grey clay bole under the gilding, alongside hand-carved joinery underneath the gesso layer.

Position a pier table in a narrow corridor or entrance hall beneath a modern mirror to balance classical gilt ornamentation with contemporary minimalism.

Dust gently using a soft dry brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaning solutions that dissolve gesso and lift delicate gold leafing.
