Late 19th century terracotta Goldscheider sculpture of a female, signed in the terracotta Nelson. She has her original patination. This sculpture has the Fredrick Goldscheider stamp with its foundry numbers on the back as seen in the images. This piece is in very good condition.

Founded in Vienna in 1885 by Friedrich Goldscheider, the manufacture became famous for producing high-quality Art Nouveau, Orientalist, and Revivalist sculptures. Working with prominent sculptors, the foundry crafted detailed terracotta busts and figures that were exported internationally.

These sculptures were cast from refined terracotta clay and typically finished with cold-painted polychrome enamels or chemically patinated to simulate cast bronze. Many examples were mounted onto polished marble or alabaster plinths with metal trim.

Authentic pieces generally feature impressed factory marks on the reverse or base, such as Goldscheider Wien, model numbers, and sculptors signatures. Stamps indicating reproduction rights or copyright protection are also common on original castings.
