lacewood centre table 1795 - CATEGORY: ANTIQUE TABLES - DATED 1800

Lacewood Centre Table 1795

£4,800    $6,233    €5,732
A fine Sheraton Period lacewood or Botany Bay oak centre table attributed to Gillows. Although not stamped the attribution is supported by the table appearing in Gillows 1795 pattern book.

Lacewood is a rare timber originating from Australia, hence the secondary name Botany Bay oak. As convicts were shipped to Australia the cargo on return would be exotic timber and other rare commodities.

This table has wonderful hand cut veneers applied to a mahogany carcass, demonstrating the quality of the piece. It features and octagonal central column, detailed with box wood, to four outplayed legs again strung with box wood. The table has a tilt top and the original brass catch.

The table is in good condition and measures 48inches in dis.
