Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This oriental centre table dates from 1900 and follows an Anglo-Indian style. Constructed from dark brown carved hardwood and teak, the piece displays a natural wood grain finish with slight wear visible along the edge of the octagonal top. The top surface features intricate pierced carvings surrounding a central circular panel depicting figures, while the heavily carved pedestal base is supported by mythological dragon legs with textured scales and upturned tails. Measuring 66 cm in height, 64 cm in width, and 64 cm in depth, this table functions well as a striking focal point positioned in the centre of a foyer or within a gentleman's library. Buyers can place decorative objects on the carved surface or utilise it as a standalone display piece in a traditional reception room.

FAQs

Export furniture produced in Asia during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries blends traditional Western furniture forms with intricate indigenous carving techniques. Features frequently include dense relief work, mythological figures, foliage, and geometric borders carved into native hardwoods.

These tables were typically crafted from dense local hardwoods such as teak, rosewood, or padauk. Construction relied on hand-carved joinery, openwork fret carving, and mortise-and-tenon joints designed to withstand varied climates.

Authentic pieces display hand-tool marks, deep undercut relief carving, and natural age-related patina in the crevices of the woodwork. They often exhibit hand-planed underside surfaces and non-uniform construction typical of hand craftsmanship.

Position the table as a focal point in an entryway or hall to highlight its architectural silhouette. Pairing intricate woodwork with minimalist surrounding decor, neutral textiles, and modern lighting creates an engaging textural contrast.

Remove dust regularly using a soft, natural-bristle brush to clean recessed carved areas. Apply high-quality beeswax sparingly with a soft cloth to nourish the timber, avoiding harsh chemical sprays or excess moisture.
