Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique Regency period dining table is constructed from well-figured mahogany in a warm red-brown colour with a polished surface. The large extending surface is supported by three baluster-turned pillars, each set on four moulded splayed legs that terminate in brass paw and ball castors. The table extends up to 361 cm in width and stands 74 cm high, accommodating multiple guests comfortably. Placed in a spacious dining room, the table serves as a grand centrepiece for formal dinner parties and family gatherings. Its classic lines and timber grain complement traditional and period interiors alike, pairing easily with matching dining chairs and a central chandelier.

FAQs

A Regency pedestal dining table typically dates from the early 19th century and features a top supported by central turned columns with outward-curving splayed legs rather than perimeter legs. These tables often feature brass toe caps, castors, and modular sections with removable leaves to accommodate large gatherings.

Primary woods for this era include dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany, chosen for its strength, rich figure, and dark colour. Secondary woods used for structural rails include pine or oak, while hardware typically comprises cast brass caps, castors, and table clips.

Authentic pieces display period-appropriate construction, such as hand-cut dovetails on support frames, original brass tilt-top mechanisms or clips, solid turned support pillars, and natural wear or patination on the brass castors and timber finish.

An oversized antique table can be paired with contemporary upholstered dining chairs to create a balanced contrast between historic wood and modern textiles. Positioning the table beneath a modern chandelier draws attention to the warm mahogany grain while anchoring the dining room.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the wood grain once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent timber shrinkage or fading.
