Opus Antiques has dated this Antique Treen Lace Folder to the 19th Century.
This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.
The finished lace panel would be dampened slightly and the lace folders would be gently pressed over the lace to smooth it out. The folder would also smooth the edges of the panels so that it would make it easier to join together the panels of lace if necessary.

Some lace folders were also very lightly heated and used to shape the lace and enhance its texture.
These small lace folders could also have been used with lace bobbins to support the lace.
This lace panel being so decorative would suggest not only that it was a lovely tool to be used in the making of lace but also that it was made as a decorative keepsake for the owner.
