This nineteenth-century Japanese hasami netsuke and kiseruzutsu case takes the form of an elongated reishi mushroom of senryu-zutsu type, designed to house kiseru tobacco pipes. Carved from natural stag antler and horn, the piece exhibits a cream and brown colour palette with a curved stem, perforated terminal, and textured antler surface. The photograph also shows a dark brown interior within the elongated hollow body, a distinctly ribbed texture on the terminal cap, and natural tonal variations across the curved stem. Measuring 21 cm high, 3.5 cm wide, and 3 cm deep, this traditional Japanese object sits comfortably on a gentleman's library bookshelf among antique volumes and decorative accessories.

A hasami netsuke is an elongated form of Japanese toggle used during the Edo and Meiji periods to secure sagemono hanging items to an obi sash by hooking over the belt.

Traditional artisans utilised natural organic materials such as stag antler, boxwood, ebony, and bamboo, selected for their structural strength and tactile quality.

Authentic pieces display characteristic natural marrow pore structures within the antler interior, smooth surface wear from historical handling, and precise hand-carved details.

Netsuke can be showcased inside glass display cases, mounted on bespoke perspex stands on a bookshelf, or arranged within a shadow box alongside small curiosities.

Antler carvings should be kept away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity, dusted gently with a soft microfibre cloth, and handled with clean hands to protect the natural patina.
