FAQs

Georgian dining tables, produced between 1714 and 1830, are characterised by classical proportions, high-quality timber, and refined craftsmanship. Common features include central pedestal bases, spiralled or turned columns, and functional designs such as drop leaves or tilt-top mechanisms.

Craftsmen during the Georgian era predominantly utilised dense mahogany prized for its durability and rich grain pattern. Construction techniques relied on hand-turned pedestals, hand-cut joinery, carved legs, and natural hide glue assembly.

Authentic Georgian pieces show signs of age-appropriate wear, such as hand-planed underside surfaces, irregular tool marks, and historical surface patination. Secondary timbers like pine or oak were frequently used for internal structural framing beneath the main tabletop.

A Georgian pedestal dining table can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing it with streamlined modern dining chairs or modern sculptural lighting overhead. The warm mahogany tones provide historical contrast against neutral wall palettes and pale timber floors.

Antique mahogany furniture should be dusted regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and treated periodically with beeswax polish to protect the finish. Maintain stable room humidity, position the piece away from direct heat sources, and clean liquid spills immediately.
