Brief Description:

The exceptional piece combines richly figured burr walnut veneers with contrasting ebonised woodwork, delicate marquetry inlay and finely executed decorative detailing throughout.
The beautifully figured rectangular top features canted corners, contrasting ebonised borders, fine stringing and an elegant central marquetry motif.

The hinged top opens to reveal beautifully inlaid playing surfaces for chess, backgammon and cribbage, making this a wonderfully versatile piece of Victorian games furniture.
Beneath the playing surfaces is a fitted, compartmentalised drawer, complete with its original-style green-lined storage sections, together with a further sliding work compartment below.

The table is supported by four elegant, turned and ebonised columns, embellished with delicate gilt detailing, which rise from beautifully shaped trestle bases united by a decorative turned stretcher.

It retains its original castors, allowing the table to be moved with ease.
A particularly attractive feature is the suspended, shaped central work compartment, which is richly veneered in burr walnut and further embellished with delicate marquetry decoration.

The quality of the cabinetmaking, together with the combination of burr walnut, ebonised finishes and intricate inlaid decoration, makes this a particularly striking example of Victorian decorative furniture.

An exceptional and highly decorative antique that would make a wonderful addition to a period drawing room, library, study or games room.
Note: The Games pieces are for display purposes only.
