Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Satin glass globes became popular during the late Victorian era, primarily produced from the 1880s through the early 20th century. Manufacturers treated blown glass with acid fumes to produce a soft, matte finish designed to diffuse the harsh glare of paraffin and oil lamp flames.

These shades were traditionally hand-blown into spherical or bulbous forms using opaque or semi-opaque cased glass. Once shaped, the outer surface was treated with hydrofluoric acid to create the signature satin texture, followed by hand-painted enamel decoration and firing.

Authentic period globes typically feature hand-painted enamel details with subtle raised texture rather than flat modern printed transfers. Look for slight irregularities in the rim dimensions, smooth ground fitters, and natural age-related wear around the base collar.

An antique glass globe can be mounted onto a converted electric lamp base or styled on a sideboard as a decorative accent. Its soft colour palette and matte finish complement modern country, period revival, and eclectic interior schemes.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Avoid soaking or using chemical detergents, abrasive scrubbers, or hot water, as these can strip or degrade the delicate hand-painted enamel artwork.
