This 19th-century Victorian jardiniere displays a warm brown mahogany finish with visible wood grain, horizontal brass binding bands secured with small pins, and a pair of integrated carved wooden carrying handles at the sides. The piece has a circular form featuring a flared rim, a tole liner within, and two brass hoops encircling the coopered staves. The item measures 16 cm high and 43 cm wide. Suitable for placement on a sideboard top, this English country house jardiniere holds a potted plant with green leaves and dark red flowers inside its interior liner. The object stands upon a rectangular table surface with a dark frame and a reddish-brown top panel against a textured stone wall backdrop.

A coopered jardiniere is an ornamental plant container constructed using traditional barrel-making techniques, where individual wooden staves are shaped and bound together with metal hoops or straps.

Nineteenth-century jardinieres were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, bound with polished brass or copper straps, and frequently fitted with zinc or metal liners to protect the timber from moisture.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-fitted wooden staves, brass binding secured with slotted screws or brass pins, minor shrinkage gaps consistent with natural timber aging, and natural patination on both the wood and metal surfaces.

Place the vessel on a console table, sideboard, or deep window sill filled with potted greenery, or utilise it as a decorative tabletop container for magazines or rolled throws to add warmth and natural texture to contemporary spaces.

Keep the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent wood movement, always use an internal waterproof liner or saucer when placing live plants inside, and dust regularly with a soft cloth while applying beeswax to the wood annually.
